Gait Analysis in Rockville Centre, NY
Your stride tells a story — and we're here to help you rewrite it. Whether you're battling chronic pain, recovering from injury, or chasing a new PR, our biomechanical gait analysis uncovers what's holding you back and shows you exactly how to move better.
Every step you take could be making things worse.
Pain doesn't just show up out of nowhere. It's your body's way of telling you something's off — and ignoring it won't make it go away. Maybe it's that nagging knee pain that won't quit, shin splints that keep coming back, or lower back discomfort that flares up after every run. You've tried rest. You've tried new shoes. You've even Googled "how to fix my running form" at 2 AM. But nothing sticks — because you're treating symptoms, not the root cause.
Here's the truth: faulty movement patterns don't fix themselves. Left unchecked, they lead to compensations, imbalances, and eventually — bigger injuries that sideline you for good.
You're compensating without realizing it
Your body is smart — it finds ways to move even when something's not working right. But those compensations create new problems, turning minor discomfort into chronic pain.
Generic advice isn't cutting it
"Just stretch more" or "strengthen your glutes" sounds great — but if it's not tailored to YOUR movement patterns, you're wasting time on fixes that don't address what's actually broken.
You're one bad step away from being sidelined
R Every run, every workout, every walk with poor mechanics is another chance for injury. The longer you wait, the harder it gets to come back stronger.
This is where we flip the script.
At Trident Physical Therapy, we don't guess — we analyze. Our comprehensive gait analysis breaks down every aspect of your movement, from foot strike to hip rotation, so we can pinpoint exactly what's causing your pain or limiting your performance. Then we build a custom plan to fix it — for good.
You're not getting a cookie-cutter program or handed off to an assistant. You're getting 60 minutes, one-on-one, with a Doctor of Physical Therapy who's also an athlete. We practice what we preach, and we know what it takes to move better, feel stronger, and stay in the game.
✓ Comprehensive biomechanical assessments using advanced movement analysis
✓ 1-on-1 sessions with performance-focused Doctors of Physical Therapy

Trusted by Rockville Centre's Active Community
“ “I originally met Dr. Matt because he took my TRX class, so it was a fun full-circle moment to have him coaching me this time around. I came in with solid strength-training experience and needed help getting my hamstrings stronger so I could run and sit at my desk without pain. He met me exactly where I was, pushed me in the right ways, and never gave a one-size-fits-all plan. You can tell he’s worked with a wide range of communities and athletes as he’s knowledgeable, adaptable, and knows how to tailor movements to real life. I’m now running pain-free and no longer uncomfortable at my desk. Couldn’t recommend him more!””
From assessment to action — here's how we get you moving better.
Step 1: Analyze
We start with a comprehensive gait analysis that goes way beyond "watch you walk." We assess your stride mechanics, joint mobility, muscle activation patterns, and movement compensations. Using hands-on evaluation and functional testing, we identify exactly where breakdowns are happening — and why.
Step 2: Correct
Once we know what's broken, we fix it. Through targeted manual therapy, corrective exercises, and movement retraining, we address the root cause of your dysfunction. You'll learn how to move the way your body was designed to — efficiently, powerfully, and pain-free.
Step 3: Optimize
Getting out of pain is step one. Coming back stronger is the goal. We don't stop at "good enough" — we push you to move better than before. Whether you're training for a race, getting back to the gym, or just want to walk without limitations, we'll give you the tools and strategy to stay strong long after PT ends.
We help active people in Rockville Centre overcome movement-related pain and performance issues.
If you're dealing with chronic pain, recurring injuries, or just can't figure out why your body won't cooperate — chances are, it's a movement problem. Our gait analysis helps runners, athletes, and active adults identify and fix the biomechanical issues that lead to:
✓ Running injuries (shin splints, plantar fasciitis, IT band syndrome, runner's knee)
✓ Knee pain and patellofemoral dysfunction
✓ Hip and lower back discomfort during activity
✓ Post-surgical gait retraining (ACL reconstruction, hip replacement, etc.)
✓ Balance issues and fall prevention for active adults and seniors
✓ Performance limitations and inefficient movement patterns

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Gait analysis is a comprehensive biomechanical assessment that evaluates how you walk, run, and move. At Trident Physical Therapy, we use hands-on evaluation, functional movement testing, and real-time observation to analyze your stride mechanics, joint alignment, muscle activation patterns, and movement compensations. This allows us to pinpoint exactly where breakdowns are occurring — whether it's poor foot strike mechanics, hip instability, or muscle imbalances — and create a customized plan to fix them. It's not just about watching you move; it's about understanding the "why" behind your pain or performance limitations.
-
Gait analysis is ideal for runners dealing with chronic injuries like shin splints, IT band syndrome, or runner's knee; athletes looking to optimize performance and prevent setbacks; post-surgical patients relearning proper movement patterns after ACL reconstruction or hip replacement; active adults experiencing unexplained knee, hip, or back pain during activity; and seniors working on balance, stability, and fall prevention. If you move — and something's not working right — gait analysis can help.
-
At Trident, you get a full hour, one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy who's also an athlete. We don't use generic protocols or hand you off to an assistant. Our gait analysis goes beyond surface-level observation — we assess your entire movement system, from foot mechanics to core stability to hip function. Then we build a personalized corrective program based on YOUR specific deficits and goals. It's not just about identifying problems; it's about fixing them and making you stronger than before.

Nope! Thanks to Direct Access laws in New York, you can start treatment at Trident without a referral or prescription. Just call or text us at (516) 386-2044 to schedule your evaluation. If you're planning on continuing care beyond 10 visits or 30 days, New York law requires a prescription — but we'll guide you through that process and can even help connect you with a provider if needed. Getting started is easy, and we're here to make it seamless.
-
Your initial gait analysis evaluation is 60 minutes. During that time, Dr. Matt or Dr. Spencer will take a detailed history, assess your movement patterns through functional testing, analyze your gait mechanics (walking and/or running), and identify specific areas of dysfunction. You'll also begin treatment during the first session — we don't waste time. By the end, you'll have a clear understanding of what's causing your issues, a personalized roadmap for recovery, and exercises to start making progress right away.

Trident Physical Therapy is an out-of-network, cash-based clinic. This means we don't bill insurance directly, but we provide you with a detailed superbill that you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement under your out-of-network benefits. Many of our clients find that the quality of care, longer session times, and faster recovery actually save them money in the long run compared to traditional insurance-based PT. We'll always be upfront about costs — no surprise bills or hidden fees.
