Frequently Asked Questions
What is Performance Physical Therapy?
At Trident Physical Therapy, we take a holistic approach to healing. We don’t just treat the symptoms, we treat the whole person. Whether you’re dealing with pain from injury or striving to perform better in your sport, we’re here to help you move stronger, faster, and with less pain. Our cash-based model gives us the flexibility to focus on what matters most—your recovery and performance—without any insurance restrictions.
Why Choose Trident Physical Therapy?
We’re not your typical clinic. When you walk into Trident, you’re treated like family. We provide one-on-one care, with hour-long sessions, allowing us to focus fully on your recovery. Unlike traditional clinics where you’re passed from therapist to therapist, you’ll work with the same expert through your entire journey. Whether you’re recovering from injury or optimizing performance, we’re here to help you achieve your personal goals and get back to living life to the fullest.
What makes Trident Physical Therapy different from traditional physical therapy offices?
At Trident, your recovery is personalized to you. We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Our treatments are tailored based on your unique needs, and we don’t rush the process. You’ll receive hands-on treatment with a Doctor of Physical Therapy during every session. Because of our focus on quality, our patients often experience quicker recoveries and see long-term improvements that last.
Do you take insurance?
Trident Physical Therapy is an out-of-network provider, meaning we can focus on giving you the best possible care without being constrained by insurance limits. Our cash-based model allows for longer, more personalized sessions, helping you heal faster with fewer appointments. You’ll always know the full cost upfront—no surprise bills or hidden fees. We’ll even provide you with a super-bill that can be submitted to your insurance for reimbursement, so you can easily make the most of your out-of-network benefits.
What is cash based physical therapy?
In a cash based treatment model, the physical therapist enters into a contract with the patient directly. The patient pays at the time of service allowing the therapist to focus all their attention on providing the best service and minimizing time spent on insurance reimbursement.
This also allows you, as the patient to know exactly what the treatment will cost you without any blind bills. While going through insurance, the amount billed will vary based on the codes billed each session. This often results in confusing bills for the patient based on these varied rates. Cash based billing eliminates all confusion and allows for clarity in decision making for the patient.
Will I end up paying more for cash based physical therapy?
Studies show that cash-based therapy is often more affordable in the long run because it requires fewer sessions to get you back to doing what you love. With our one-on-one, hour-long sessions, you’ll spend less time in the clinic and more time doing the things that matter. Plus, with no insurance middleman, you’ll always know exactly what to expect—no surprises.
Do you accept FSA/HSA cards?
We do accept HSAs and FSAs! Let your therapist know that you would like to use your HSA / FSA and we can help you with this process.
Why would I choose to pay out of pocket when I can use my insurance at another clinic?
You might be wondering why you should pay out of pocket when you could use insurance. Here's why:
Cash-based physical therapy has been shown to cost less in the long run compared to traditional insurance-based models. At Trident, we prioritize your recovery by offering one-on-one, 60-minute sessions with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Each session is hands-on, using manual techniques like cupping and joint mobilizations, specifically tailored to your needs.
In contrast, many insurance-based clinics spread their therapists thin, often seeing 4-5 patients per hour, meaning you get less attention and hands-on care. Sessions at these clinics might include generic exercises done by rehab aides, leading to longer recovery times and lower satisfaction.
At Trident, because we focus on individualized, one-on-one care, we typically need fewer sessions to get you back to doing what you love, helping you recover faster and save you money in the long term. It’s not about quantity; it’s about quality care that’s designed to deliver real results.
Experience what physical therapy should be—personalized, efficient, and focused on YOU.
Do I need a script or referral to see you?
No prescription or referral is needed to get started with Trident Physical Therapy! You can call or text us today to schedule your appointment—no waiting weeks to see your physician or specialist. We make it easy for you to get the care you need, quickly.
With Direct Access in New York, you can begin treatment right away, helping us address your acute pain before it turns into a bigger, more complex issue.
If you’re planning on seeing us for ongoing care, New York law requires a prescription after 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first. But with our approach, you'll often reach 30 days before 10 visits, so we'll have plenty of time to discuss your progress and next steps. If you don’t have a provider for a prescription, we can help with that, too.
Getting started is easy, and we’re here to help you feel better, faster.
What can I expect during my initial evaluation?
Your first visit is all about getting to know you and your body. We’ll discuss your medical history, assess your current pain or injury, and perform a thorough movement and strength evaluation. You’ll leave with a clear understanding of what’s causing your pain and how we’ll address it. You’ll also begin your personalized treatment plan, including initial exercises to jumpstart your recovery.
We recommend wearing comfortable, athletic clothing so we can get started right away. If you’re seeing us for a lower-body issue, please wear shorts.
